Visitor Visas

A Visitor Visa in the UK is a short-term visa that allows individuals to visit the UK for various reasons, such as tourism, business, or to visit family and friends. The UK Standard Visitor Visa is the most common type, and it is valid for up to 6 months.

 

The UK has several types of visitor visas, but the Standard Visitor Visa is the most commonly used for short visits. The key categories under the Visitor Visa are

The UK offers two main types of student visas, depending on the age of the applicant and the type of course they wish to pursue:

A. Standard Visitor Visa

This is for individuals who want to visit the UK for tourism, business, or other short-term purposes.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Tourism: You must be visiting the UK for tourism or leisure activities.
  2. Business: You can come to attend meetings, conferences, or training, or explore business opportunities. However, you cannot work or provide services on a visitor visa.
  3. Visiting Family or Friends: If you want to visit family members or friends who are in the UK, this visa allows you to stay temporarily.
  4. Medical Treatment**: If you require medical treatment or to visit a private medical clinic, you can apply for a visitor visa to get treatment in the UK.

Duration:

The visa is typically granted for up to 6 months. However, it can be granted for shorter or longer periods (up to 2 years) in some exceptional cases, such as for people attending academic research or family visits.

B. Short-term Study Visa

This is for individuals coming to the UK for short courses of study that last 6 months or less.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. You must be enrolled in a course lasting 6 months or less.
  2. You must prove that you have the financial means to support yourself during the stay.

Duration:
Typically granted for the length of the course (up to 6 months).

C. Marriage Visitor Visa

This is for individuals who are coming to the UK to get married or enter into a civil partnership with a UK citizen or someone with settled status.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. You must intend to marry or form a civil partnership within the 6 months of your stay.
  2. You and your partner must meet certain relationship requirements.

Duration:

Granted for up to 6 months, but the visa does not allow you to stay longer or switch to another visa type, such as a spouse visa, while in the UK.

D. Parent of a Child Student Visa (for Visiting)

If you are the parent of a child who is studying in the UK and you wish to visit them, you can apply for a specific visitor visa to see them.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Your child must be studying in the UK on a Child Student visa.
  2. You must prove that you will leave the UK at the end of your visit.

Eligibility Criteria for the Standard Visitor Visa

To apply for a Standard Visitor Visa, you must meet certain eligibility criteria:

 

  1. Genuine Visitor: You must prove that you are a genuine visitor, meaning that you are visiting the UK temporarily and for the purpose of tourism, business, or family visits.
  2. Intention to Leave the UK: You must prove that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit. This can include showing strong ties to your home country, such as a job, family, or property.
  3. Financial Requirements: You must show that you can support yourself financially during your stay in the UK. This can be through bank statements, employment letters, or a sponsor’s declaration of support.
  4. Accommodation Details: You may need to show evidence of where you will be staying during your visit, such as hotel bookings, invitations from family or friends, etc.

After submitting your application and documents, you will have to wait for the visa decision. The processing time for a Standard Visitor Visa is usually 3 weeks from the date of application, but it can take longer in some cases.
